Custom Manufacturing for Distributors
Not everything your client wants is in a catalog. Corium designs and manufactures fully custom leather and canvas products for promotional products distributors: bags, small leather goods, desk and hospitality pieces, packaging and more.
We own and operate our own factory in Minneapolis, so we prototype quickly, put a physical sample in your hands, and then build the finished design at whatever scale the program needs, from a modified catalog item in a client’s brand color to a new design for a national rollout.
Process
How a custom project works
1. Brief. Send us what the client is trying to do: the product or use case, quantity, target in-hands date, budget range, and any reference images or sketches. Our team comes back with options, a rough price range and a realistic timeline, usually within a few business days.
2. Prototype. We pattern and build a first sample in Minneapolis, in the leather and color you choose, with your client’s logo debossed. This is where size, pocket layout, hardware and stitching get settled.
3. Sample approval. You and your client review the physical sample. Revisions are made in our own factory by the people who built the first sample, so a second round is days, not weeks.
4. Production. On approval and PO, the program goes into production on our floor. We ship FedEx, bulk-packed or with custom packaging, direct or blind drop shipped to your client.
Typical quantities and timing. Modified catalog pieces (a custom size, a client color, a different pocket or closure) start around 100 pieces and move on catalog-like lead times once the sample is approved. New designs typically run 250 pieces and up, with a prototype in two to three weeks and production quoted per project, most often four to eight weeks after approval. Rush programs are possible; tell us the in-hands date up front.
Examples
What custom looks like in practice
A hospitality group’s in-room set. A valet tray and coaster set sized to a specific nightstand, foil-debossed with the property crest, in a Chocolate leather matched to the room palette. Prototyped from a photo of the nightstand, approved on the second sample, produced for every room across the portfolio.
An incentive-trip travel kit. A passport wallet and luggage tag in Navy with the program logo on the front and each winner’s initials inside, packed in a branded gift box so the distributor could ship one carton straight to the client’s event team.
A tech company’s onboarding piece. A canvas-and-leather pouch with a custom internal divider for a badge, cable and notebook, in company colors, drop shipped to remote hires in lots of a few dozen at a time through the year on a standing program.
Each of these started as a distributor email with a sketch or a photo. That is all we need to begin.
Scope
What we make, and what we don’t
A good fit: leather and canvas goods of the kind in our catalog, built to a client’s spec: bags, totes, pouches, dopp kits, wallets and card holders, desk mats and trays, journal covers and portfolios, hospitality and tabletop pieces, and packaging to go with them. Custom sizes, custom colors within our leather and canvas range, custom hardware finishes, custom debossing and foil.
Not a fit: non-leather products, printed or embroidered decoration, and one-off pieces below our custom minimums. For those we will tell you straight away and, where we can, point you to a supplier who does it well.
