Ask an executive assistant what happens to most executive gifts and you will hear the same answer: the box goes in a closet. A leather desk mat does not. It is unrolled once, the laptop goes on top of it, and it stays in the recipient's eyeline for every working hour for years. For a distributor that is the whole pitch: a custom logo leather desk mat is the highest-visibility piece in the leather category, it is photographed more than any other desk gift, and it quotes cleanly because there are only three sizes and two edges. Here is how to sell it.

What makes a desk mat an executive gift

Corium's desk mats are cut from full-grain leather in our Minneapolis factory, in three sizes from 18" × 12" to the 20" × 14" Large Desk Mat, which covers a laptop, a mouse and a notebook with room to spare. They come in eight leather colors (Black, Chocolate, Copper, Navy, Red Maple, Emerald Green, Natural and Tan) with a stitched or non-stitched edge, and they are debossed with a 2" × 2" logo. Full-grain leather matters here more than on any other product: a desk mat takes elbows, coffee cups and laptop feet every day, and only an intact top grain burnishes with that wear instead of flaking. The mat develops a patina; the logo develops with it.

Logo placement: corner, not center

The single decision that separates a desk mat that gets used from one that gets re-gifted is where the logo sits. A centered logo lands under the laptop and the recipient sees it as a billboard. A bottom-right corner placement reads as a maker's mark, stays visible beside the mouse, and lets the leather do the talking. We default to the corner on mockups unless the client asks otherwise. For recognition programs, the company logo in the corner and the recipient's initials or a milestone ("25 Years") on the opposite corner is the format that gets the strongest reaction, and it uses the same die for the logo plus type dies for the personalization.

Who buys branded leather desk mats

C-suite and board gifts. The large mat in Black or Chocolate, blind-debossed, is the default board gift for clients who have already done the pen set and the crystal.

Executive onboarding. A new VP's first-day desk with a branded mat already on it is a photo that ends up on LinkedIn. Pair with a journal cover and a valet tray for a complete desk set; see our new-hire welcome kit guide for tiered kits.

Remote and hybrid teams. The home-office kit is the fastest-growing use. A mat ships flat, survives the carrier, and makes a kitchen-table workstation look intentional. We blind drop ship to individual addresses with your packing slip.

Professional services client appreciation. Law firms, wealth managers and consultancies whose clients already own everything. A mat with the firm's mark is tasteful enough to sit in a client's office.

Conference and welcome kits on a budget. When the mat is too much, the rectangular and round mouse pads deliver the same leather and the same logo for under $30 a piece, and they are Quick Ship items.

Pricing, tiers and the one-die trick

Corium sells only through promotional products distributors, 24-piece minimum, price breaks at 100, 250 and 500. Rough per-piece ranges across the tiers and edge options: Small Desk Mat about $34 to $47, Medium about $52 to $66, Large about $73 to $90, mouse pads about $18 to $30. Logo tooling is $100(V), repeat setups $31.25(V). Because the imprint area is 2" × 2" on every mat and pad, one die usually serves the whole desk set, so a mat plus mouse pad for a 50-person leadership team is one tooling charge, not two. Current pricing is in ESP and SAGE and on each product page.

Blind deboss or foil

Blind deboss is standard and is right for almost every desk mat: tone-on-tone, understated, and it ages with the leather. Gold or silver foil earns its place on recognition pieces and on dark mats where the client wants the mark to read from across the room. Silver on Navy or Black and gold on Chocolate or Emerald Green are the combinations we see most. The debossing guide walks through the choice and the artwork we need, which is a vector logo with type converted to outlines.

Lead time and samples

Most orders ship FedEx from Minneapolis within 10 business days of artwork approval; mouse pads on Quick Ship run faster. Unbranded samples are available at EQP, which is the right way to sell a mat: put the leather on the client's desk and let them run a hand over it. Send the vector logo, quantity and in-hands date to sales@coriumusa.com for a mockup with the logo placed at size, or order through ESP (ASI 46669) or SAGE (52340). Terms are on the how to order page.

Quick answers

What size desk mat should I quote? Large (20" × 14") for an executive desk with a laptop and mouse; Small (18" × 12") for a home-office kit or a tighter budget. When in doubt, send an unbranded sample of each.

Can the logo go in the center? It can, but we recommend the bottom-right corner so the mark stays visible beside the mouse and the mat reads as a gift rather than an ad.

Will the leather mark from a laptop or coffee? Full-grain leather burnishes with daily use and develops a patina; it does not flake or peel the way coated or bonded leather does.

What is the minimum? 24 pieces, price breaks at 100, 250 and 500; most orders ship within 10 business days of artwork approval.
